Volunteer for the day
Volunteering on a Habitat construction site can be hard work, but it's a unique and rewarding experience - well worth the effort. You'll have the opportunity to transform lives and create stronger communities by helping Habitat build safe, affordable homes for hardworking families on Long Island.
Whether you have never swung a hammer or you're a trade professional, we provide the training and tools needed to work at our construction site. From building new homes to repairing existing ones, all construction volunteers build the strength and self-reliance a family needs to change their lives through homeownership.
Construction volunteers build side by side with our future homeowners, site supervisors and other volunteers on any of our home build projects. Swing a hammer, install sheetrock, siding or flooring- no matter what task you are assigned, you will be doing your part to build a better Long Island.
There are volunteer opportunities Tuesday-Saturday for walk-ons. The walk-on volunteer calendar is updated weekly, please check the calendar every Monday evening for walk-on events and updates. We are always adding days to the calendar, so once you sign up, be sure to check back often!

Must be 16 years or older to volunteer on a construction site.
16 AND 17 YEAR OLD VOLUNTEERS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT FOR THE DURATION OF THE VOLUNTEER DAY.
Become a Crew Leader
A Crew Leader is a volunteer who dedicates 12 days out of the year to help lead crews on a Habitat worksite. Whether you volunteer once a month, every two weeks, or all 12 days in a row, you are actively making a commitment to Habitat Long Island's crew leader program, a program that is essential for running our worksites in an organized and safe manner.
Crew Leaders work with small groups of volunteers (1-4) completing assigned tasks, maintaining quality control in a diplomatic manner, keeping volunteers involved, and troubleshooting. The position requires a desire to learn the construction process and teach others how to proceed with a task.
We encourage all volunteers to become a part of the Crew Leader Program! Once you submit your application, attend a Crew Leader Orientation and complete 4 volunteer days, you'll receive a "CREW LEADER" Habitat t-shirt as a way to distinguish you on site and recognize you as an integral part of the program!

Volunteer at Long Island ReStore
Volunteering at Long Island ReStore is a great opportunity to engage in Habitat's mission and give back to your community. ReStore is a home improvement store and donation center, selling new and gently used home goods, building materials and other home improvement products. Proceeds from the ReStore provide an important source of additional funding for Habitat Long Island to build and renovate high-quality, affordable housing for Long Island residents.
The ReStore is a perfect place for volunteers who don't necessarily want to swing a hammer, but want to be part of helping Habitat provide local families strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
ReStore is run by a small crew and many dedicated volunteers that help drive store sales, organize inventory, stock shelves, unload and organize donations, prepare and place merchandise on the sales floor and assist customers in the store. Our staff and regular volunteers will give you the training you need to have a fun and rewarding days at ReStore.
